What patients say
Counted from their Google reviews up to September 2026. Something shows here once at least 3 patients mention it. Bigger clinics get more reviews, so compare with care. Their FAQ
Answers from their website.
Is the dental care completely free?
For many, yes, but it depends on your family income. If your adjusted family net income is below $70,000, the plan covers 100% of the established CDCP fees. If your income is between $70,000 and $89,999, you will be responsible for a co-payment (either 40% or 60%). It is also important to note that if a dentist’s office fees are slightly higher than the government’s set rates, there may be a small “balance” or “gap” payment required.
I already have some dental coverage. Can I still apply for the CDCP?
The CDCP is specifically for those without any form of private dental insurance. If you have access to a dental plan through your employer, a pension, or a professional organization, even if you chose not to sign up for it or find the premiums too high, you are generally not eligible. However, if you are covered by a government social program (provincial or federal), you can still qualify and coordinate the two benefits.
How do I transfer my CDCP benefits to your clinic?
Simply provide us with your CDCP/Sun Life member ID when you book. As a result, we can verify your coverage instantly.
What kind of treatments can I get done under this plan?
The plan covers most “bread and butter” dentistry. This includes your regular check-ups, X-rays, and cleanings to keep your smile healthy. If you need more intensive work, it also covers fillings, root canals, extractions, and even dentures. Cosmetic work, like whitening or veneers, is not included.
Do I need to pay the dentist first and get a refund later?
No, you won’t have to “pay and chase” for your money. Participating dentists bill Sun Life directly. At your appointment, you only pay the portion not covered by the plan (your co-payment or any fee differences). This makes it much easier to manage your budget while getting the care you need.
How do I know if my specific treatment is “pre-authorized”?
Think of pre-authorization as a “check-in” with the insurance provider. For routine things like cleanings or simple fillings, we can usually proceed right away. For more complex procedures like crowns or new dentures, we submit a request to the CDCP first. They review your dental history and confirm they will cover the cost before we start the work.
I’m already a member; do I need to do anything to keep my coverage?
Yes! CDCP coverage is not “one and done.” You must file your taxes every year and complete an annual renewal process (usually between April and June) to confirm you still meet the income requirements and still don’t have private insurance. Service Canada will typically notify you when it’s time to renew.
At what age should I start taking my child to see the dentist?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that children first see a dentist as early as six months of age and no later than one year of age. During this time, your child’s baby teeth will be coming in and your dentist can examine the health of your child’s first few teeth. After the first visit, be sure to schedule regular checkups every six months.
