Dr. Janna’s journey in dentistry began in the early 1990s in her home city of Almaty, Kazakhstan, where she graduated with honours from Almaty Medical State University. She started her career as a dental surgeon in the Pediatric Maxillofacial Department of a hospital, where she also conducted scientific research in laser dentistry. Upon immigrating to Canada in 1998, she worked as a dental hygienist in Toronto while preparing for her Canadian dental qualifications. Her strong connections with patients inspired her to challenge the National Dental Examining Board, allowing her to regain her qualifications and resume her dental career in Canada. Dr. Janna intends to continue her teaching career at the Faculty of Dentistry at UBC, which speaks to her dedication to advancing the field.
