What counts as a dental emergency?
A dental emergency is any problem that causes severe pain, bleeding, swelling, or damage and requires immediate treatment. This includes a knocked-out tooth, dental abscess, cracked tooth, severe toothache, or a lost crown. If you are searching for emergency dentistry near you because you are unsure whether your problem is urgent, our team will guide you and let you know whether you need to come in right away.
What should I do if my tooth gets knocked out?
Pick up the tooth by the crown (the top part), not the root. Rinse it gently with water—do not scrub it. If possible, place it back in the socket. If not, keep it in a small cup of milk or between your cheek and gum. Call us immediately. Getting to a dentist within 30 to 60 minutes gives the best chance of saving the tooth.
Will emergency dental treatment hurt?
We do everything we can to keep you comfortable. We use local anesthesia to numb the area before treatment. Most patients feel much better after treatment than before, since we are removing the source of the pain.
Will I need a root canal during an emergency visit?
If the pulp inside the tooth is infected, a root canal treatment may be needed to save the tooth and stop the pain.
Will I be fully asleep during my dental procedure?
Not necessarily. With nitrous oxide, you are awake but relaxed. With oral sedation, you may feel very drowsy and might not remember the appointment clearly — but you are usually not fully unconscious. General anesthesia is different and is not the same as the sedation options we offer.
How do I know which type of sedation is right for me?
During your consultation, our dentist will talk with you about your level of anxiety, your medical history, and the type of procedure you need. Together, we will decide if nitrous oxide or oral sedation is the better fit for you.
Is sedation dentistry safe?
