Can I use CDCP at any dental office?
Not all dental offices participate in the Canadian Dental Care Plan. At Hanlon Creek Dental, we're registered CDCP providers and welcome patients with this coverage.
What if I already have a dentist?
You can continue seeing your current dentist if they accept CDCP. If they don't participate in the program, you're welcome to transfer your care to Hanlon Creek Dental or find another participating provider.
How often does CDCP coverage renew?
CDCP coverage renews annually. You don't need to reapply each year—as long as you continue to meet the eligibility requirements and file your taxes, your coverage should automatically renew.
What happens if my income changes?
If your income increases and exceeds $90,000, you may lose CDCP eligibility. However, if you become ineligible during the coverage year, you can continue to use your benefits until June 30 of that calendar year.
Can my whole family use CDCP?
Yes, if all family members meet the eligibility criteria, they can each have their own CDCP coverage. Each person needs to apply separately and will receive their own member card.
What if I need emergency dental care?
CDCP covers emergency dental services. If you have a dental emergency in Guelph, call Hanlon Creek Dental at (548) 855-0283. We offer same-day emergency appointments when possible and can help you access your CDCP benefits for urgent care.
Do you offer same-day emergency dental appointments?
Whenever possible, yes. We hold time in the day for urgent problems — severe toothaches, broken teeth, lost fillings, abscesses, and more. Call us early if you can, and we'll work to get you seen the same day. When you phone, we'll also walk you through managing your symptoms until you arrive.
When should I call an emergency dentist?
Call us if you have tooth pain that won't ease off, visible damage to a tooth, bleeding you can't control, swelling in the gum, cheek, or jaw, a filling or crown that's come loose, or signs of infection like fever, a foul taste, or a bump on the gum. If there's severe facial trauma, trouble breathing, or bleeding you can't stop, skip the wait and go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
