A dental emergency is a condition that requires prompt evaluation to control severe pain, stop bleeding, manage infection, treat an injury, or reduce the risk of permanent tooth loss. Examples include: Unmanageable tooth pain A knocked-out permanent tooth Facial swelling or a suspected abscess A broken or displaced tooth Oral bleeding that will not stop Significant damage to a filling or crown Trauma involving the mouth or jaw Minor sensitivity may not require immediate treatment, but persistent or worsening symptoms should still be examined.

Walk-in emergency visits may be accommodated when space is available. However, contacting the clinic first is recommended. A scheduled arrival can reduce uncertainty and gives the dental team time to prepare for your specific concern. Same-day availability is not guaranteed, but SmileCrafters makes every reasonable effort to assist urgent patients.

A same-day tooth extraction may be possible after the dentist examines the tooth, reviews any necessary imaging, and considers your health history. The procedure may need to be rescheduled or referred when the extraction is complex, additional preparation is needed, or there is insufficient appointment time. The dentist will also determine whether the tooth can be saved before recommending removal.

Root canal treatment may be started or completed during an emergency appointment when the diagnosis is confirmed and adequate treatment time is available. Some patients first receive care intended to relieve pressure, reduce pain, or stabilize the tooth. The remaining treatment may then be completed at a follow-up visit. Complex root canal cases may require referral to a dentist with additional endodontic expertise.

A suspected abscess should be examined as soon as possible. Dental infections may progress and generally do not resolve permanently without treating their source. Contact a dentist promptly when you have pain, swelling, pus, fever, a bad taste, or a tender bump on your gum. Difficulty breathing or swallowing, rapidly spreading swelling, or swelling near the eye or neck requires emergency medical care.

Bring the following when available: Government-issued identification Dental insurance or CDCP information A list of current medications Information about medical conditions and allergies Any relevant recent dental records A parent or legal guardian for a minor A lost crown, broken restoration, or tooth fragment A knocked-out permanent tooth stored appropriately Tell the dental team which pain medications you have taken, how much you took, and when you took them.

TMJ relief typically lasts 3–6 months before a follow-up treatment is recommended.

Most patients report only minor pressure during the procedure. Discomfort is brief and manageable.
