Image Dr. Lara Assal Dentist Dr. Assal spent 7 years at U of T, first receiving her BSc and then her DDS in 2007. Her patients describe her as very gentle and empathetic. She takes the time to explain treatment in detail, and completes treatment with attention and care. She performs and enjoys all aspects of dentistry, but has a talent for aesthetic work. In her free time, Dr. Assal loves being active with her former classmate and now husband, Dr. George Nassar, and their 2 boys. When she is not driving her boys around the city for soccer practices and games, she loves taking beach vacations with her family and snorkeling!

Is sedation dentistry safe?
There’s always a risk with sedation, but it is generally safe when administered by trained professionals. You may be at risk if you are overweight or if you suffer from sleep apnea. Talk to your dentist if you have any concerns.
What is IV sedation dentistry?
IV sedation is a form of conscious sedation where the sedative is administered intravenously through a vein in your arm. It produces a deep state of relaxation where you will not be fully aware of your surroundings and you won’t remember your treatment.
Why can’t I drive after sedation?
Sedatives can impair your judgement and reaction times so it can be dangerous to operate a vehicle after your appointment. You may also be considered legally impaired and could face charges if you are stopped by law enforcement. It’s safer to arrange a ride home after your appointment.
I’ve broken or lost a tooth. Can it be saved?
Yes, in many cases we can save a broken or lost tooth. Bring the broken tooth with you to your appointment. If the tooth has been knocked out, you can place it back in the socket or you can keep the tooth by placing it in your mouth between your cheek and your gums. You can also put the tooth in a container of cool milk and bring it with you to your appointment.
I have a severe toothache. What can I do?
Over the counter pain medication may help with the discomfort of a toothache. Some patients find relief with a warm or cool compress near the affected area. If you notice severe swelling or bleeding, contact our office.
When should I go to the emergency room?
Go to the emergency room or call 911 if you are bleeding heavily, if you suspect you may have broken a bone, or if you are having trouble breathing.
My dentures are slipping, uncomfortable or broken. What can I do?
Your dentures should fit comfortably without slipping. If yours are uncomfortable or are slipping, bring them to our office for adjustment or repair.
How do I care for my dentures?
Remove and rinse dentures after every meal to remove food particles. At the same time, you can clean your mouth and brush your teeth before putting your dentures back in. Clean your dentures with a soft brush and denture solution every night to remove food and stains, and put them in a denture solution overnight to keep them moist so they keep their shape. Your dentist will also give you a schedule to bring your dentures in to be checked and cleaned to make sure they’re in good condition and fit properly.
