The Orthodontist - Dr. Lillian Shum Dr. Shum is a Certified Specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. She graduated from the orthodontic program at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Forsyth Dental Center in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her dentistry degree, Doctor of Dental Medicine, magna cum laude, from Tufts School of Dental Medicine in 1994. While at Tufts University, she was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. During her externship, she worked in New York City at the military base on Governors Island and treated families of the US Coast Guard. Dr. Shum also completed Tweed Orthodontic Study Course at the Charles Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontic Research in Tucson, Arizona. Prior to dentistry, Dr. Shum graduated from the University of Toronto in the Department of Biochemistry and Physical Chemistry.

We have a customized treatment for every patient. The doctor is there every step of the way, providing a hands-on, one-on-one treatment from beginning to end. You have time to ask questions to the doctor directly, and discuss your treatment progress.

An Orthodontic Specialist has 3 more years of training, specifically in orthodontics, at an accredited university. An Orthodontic Specialist has the knowledge and ability to treat different types of crooked teeth- from complex surgical cases to uprighting tipped teeth, and preparation for implants.

Orthodontics is a complex treatment involving small movements over time. With the orthodontic specialist’s highly skilled precision, techniques and materials, we closely monitor to ensure the best treatment and results. We offer flexible payment plans to accommodate your financial needs.
Does my insurance plan cover orthodontics?
We provide you with an Estimate Form to submit to your insurance company, to determine if your insurance plan covers Orthodontic Treatment. Sometimes, your plan will cover 5o% of the cost, with a lifetime maximum amount. Not all plans cover orthodontic treatment. Please consult with your Plan Booklet under Orthodontics. OHIP does not cover orthodontics.
