Their FAQ

Answers from their website.

What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

The CDCP is a federal program that helps cover the cost of dental care for eligible Canadian residents who do not have access to private dental insurance. Covered services include exams, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and many restorative treatments, with co-payments based on adjusted family net income.

Who is eligible for CDCP coverage?

Eligibility is based on Canadian residency, filing the most recent tax return, having an adjusted family net income under $90,000, and not having access to other dental insurance. Sun Life administers the program on behalf of Health Canada.

What dental services are covered under CDCP?

CDCP covers a broad range of services including exams, X-rays, cleanings, fluoride, fillings, root canals, extractions, dentures, and select restorative procedures. Some treatments require pre-authorization; our team will let you know in advance.

Will I have to pay anything out-of-pocket?

Depending on your adjusted family net income, you may have a co-payment between 0% and 60% of the eligible service cost. We confirm your tier and provide a clear estimate before treatment begins.

How do I apply for the CDCP?

You can apply through Service Canada or by phone once you receive an invitation letter. After approval, Sun Life sends you a welcome package and a member card with the coverage start date.

Do I need to bring anything to my first CDCP appointment?

Please bring your CDCP member card and a piece of government-issued ID. Our front desk verifies coverage before your appointment so there are no surprises.

Can my children be covered under the CDCP?

Yes. Eligible children under 18 in qualifying households are covered, and our practice welcomes pediatric CDCP patients.

What is the NIHB Program?

The Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program provides coverage for eligible First Nations and Inuit clients for dental care and other health-related services not covered by provincial, territorial, or private insurance. Coverage may include routine preventive care as well as certain restorative and specialized dental treatments.
