John is happily married to his high school sweetheart Paula. He is the father of three adult sons. He spent much of their youth being actively involved in their numerous activities and endeavours helping out as coach or manager whenever needed. John was raised in Thorold and attended Denis Morris Secondary School in St. Catharines graduating in 1987. He received numerous high school awards at graduation and was granted the Larkin Estate Award towards his university education. Following high school, he attended the University of Toronto where he received a Bachelor of Science degree with Specialist in Biochemistry. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree John was admitted to the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto graduating in 1995.
