Their FAQ
Answers from their website.
Why so early?
Baby teeth matter. They help children chew, speak, smile, and hold space for adult teeth. Unfortunately, tooth decay can begin soon after teeth erupt. Early childhood cavities are common and can progress quickly, especially when children snack frequently, fall asleep with bottles, consume sugary drinks, or have limited fluoride exposure.
How often should fluoride varnish be applied?
For many children, fluoride varnish is applied every 3 to 6 months, depending on the child’s risk for cavities. A child at higher risk may benefit from more frequent applications. Risk factors may include: - Previous cavities or early white spots on teeth - Frequent sugary snacks or drinks - Sleeping with a bottle or sippy cup containing milk or juice - Limited access to fluoridated water - A parent or sibling with frequent cavities - Difficulty brushing teeth well - Special health care needs
Can I use the CDCP immediately after applying?
No. You should wait until you have been approved and have received your official coverage start date. Services performed before your coverage start date will not be covered retroactively.
Can I submit my own dental receipt to Sun Life?
No. The oral healthcare provider must submit the claim and receive payment directly from Sun Life.
Can I change dentists?
However, changing dental offices does not reset examination, cleaning, X-ray, filling, denture or other treatment frequency limits.
Does the CDCP cover emergency dental treatment?
Certain emergency examinations, pain-control procedures, fillings, root canals, extractions and other urgent services may be eligible. The exact coverage depends on the patient’s clinical condition, current eligibility and the CDCP rules for the proposed procedure.
Does the CDCP cover dental implants?
No. Dental implants, implant-supported crowns, implant-supported dentures and other implant-related procedures are excluded.
Does the CDCP cover crowns?
Certain single-tooth crowns may be considered for patients aged 18 and older. Crowns require preauthorization, supporting clinical documentation and satisfaction of detailed structural and periodontal criteria. Approval is not guaranteed.
