Prior to this he obtained his Honours B.Sc. in Bio-Medical Sciences from the University of Guelph. During his dental studies Dr. Baroey received recognition with awards of excellence in both Dental Anesthesiology as well as Periodontics and graduated with honours. Dr. Baroey is passionate about delivering patient-centered care. His attention to detail, comprehensive approach, and non-judgemental attitude towards treatment provide a space in which patients are able to seek care no matter their past dental experience. Dr. Baroey also provides his services through the Victoria Cool Aid Society Dental Clinic to those in need and is a member of the executive board of the Victoria and District Dental Society.

I was raised on a grain farm in west central Saskatchewan and completed my dental education in Saskatoon. I moved to Victoria after graduating and have been practicing dentistry here since. Before Coastline Dental, I spent several years as a partner with the Colwood Dental Group on the west shore. Can you put me to sleep for an extraction?
We don’t use full “sleep” or general anesthesia for extractions. Instead, we offer oral sedation, which allows you to take a prescribed pill before your appointment. This method helps you feel calm, drowsy, and deeply relaxed while we complete your treatment safely. Many patients feel so at ease that they remember very little of the procedure, making extractions much less stressful.
What sedation options are available for a nervous patient?
We provide oral sedation as a safe and effective way to ease dental anxiety. With this option, you take a small pill before your visit that helps you stay relaxed throughout your appointment. It’s especially helpful if you feel nervous, have a strong gag reflex, or need longer treatment. Oral sedation makes it easier to get the care you need without feeling overwhelmed.
What can I expect from sedation dentistry?
You can expect to feel calm, drowsy, and less aware of the procedure. Before your visit, we’ll review your medical history and explain how oral sedation works. Once the medication takes effect, you’ll feel deeply relaxed and less sensitive to sights and sounds around you. Time often feels like it passes quickly, and many patients recall little about their treatment afterward.
What happens after a sedation dentistry appointment?
You’ll likely feel groggy for several hours as the sedative wears off. Because oral sedation can affect your reflexes and judgment, you’ll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment. Are dental sedatives safe?

Why do I need a drive home after sedation?
Because oral sedation can affect your coordination and alertness, driving afterward isn’t safe. Even if you feel awake, the medication may still slow your reflexes. That’s why we require a trusted friend or family member to bring you to your appointment and take you home after. This ensures your safety and lets you rest while the sedative fully wears off.
How do I know if I have an infection in or near my tooth?
Common symptoms of infection include sensitivity to pressure, heat and cold, sore or bleeding gums, or a sharp toothache. Infections can also occur without any symptoms, so it’s important to see your dentist for regular dental examinations.
How long does root canal treatment last?
A restored tooth should stay healthy for a lifetime if it isn’t injured or damaged by decay. The crown may need to be replaced every 10 to 20 years.
