Dr. Villing grew up in Delta and then went on to obtain both his BSc. and DMD from the University of British Columbia. Following dental school, he practiced Dentistry in rural BC. He then went on to complete his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Washington. In addition, he serves as the Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for the Fraser Valley division of the BC Cancer Agency. Dr. Villing is also a clinical instructor in Oral Surgery at the University of British Columbia, the President of the British Columbia Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BCAOMS), President of the Dental Specialty Society of BC (DSSBC) and the President of the Fraser Valley Dental Society (FVDS). In September 1985, Dr. Matthew was accepted as a registrar in oral surgery, serving under the wing of Prof. Hugh Edmondson. Facial trauma and head and neck pathology were two major preoccupations for Prof. Edmondson’s staff.

In 2018, Dr. Grewal was nominated by his colleagues to be inducted into three honorary dental societies; The American College of Dentists, The International College of Dentists, and The Pierre Fauchard Academy.
